- Alchemical Items: Alchemical Items are potions or items that can be thrown that do special effects.
- Artifacts: Major (or Legendary) artifacts are unique items—only one of each such item exists. These are the most potent of magic items, capable of altering the balance of a campaign. Unlike all other magic items, major artifacts are not easily destroyed. Each should have only a single, specific means of destruction.
- Magical Armor: Enchanted armor is one of the most important things an adventurer can acquire—for what good is wealth and power when a dragon claw rips through your breastplate? In general, magic armor protects the wearer to a greater extent than non-magical armor. Magic Armor bonuses are enhancement bonuses, never rise above +5, and stack with regular armor bonuses (and with shield and magic shield enhancement bonuses).
- Magical Weapons: A magic weapon is enhanced to strike more truly and deliver more damage. Magic weapons have enhancement bonuses ranging from +1 to +5. They apply these bonuses to both attack and damage rolls when used in combat.
- Magitek: Magitek are special magical vehicles that imbue the driver with magical might.
- Materia: Materia are special little crystal orbs that contain magicite which provide a magical effect when affixed to a weapon, shield, or suit of armor (or any other item that grants an armor bonus to AC). In addition, a character can cast spells from these materia by using the Use Magic Device skill to attune and cast. These materia are carefully crafted by spellcasters. There are five types of materia (Spell, Support, Independent, Ability, and Summon)
- Rings: Rings bestow magical powers upon their wearers. Only a rare few have charges—most magic rings are permanent and potent magic items. Anyone can use a ring. A character can only effectively wear two magic rings. A third magic ring doesn’t work if the wearer is already wearing two magic rings.
- Royal Arms: These legendary weapons lay locked away in ancient royal tombs, stolen by raiders, or are being shown off at museums. Whatever the case may be, these weapons grant great power to those who wield them.
- Wondrous Items: Wondrous items are varied and diverse. Some must be worn in a specific magic item slot in order to work, while others must merely be possessed and utilized. The term “wondrous item” is a catchall description for anything that doesn’t fall into other groups, such as weapons, staves, and so on. Anyone can use a wondrous item, unless the item specifies otherwise.
