While many viera follow traditional monastic training and traditions, others learn to blend exotic combat and the mysterious forces of ki with the natural world, allowing them to move through trees and overgrowth to deliver devastating attacks.
The treetop monk is an archetype of the monk class, available only to viera monks.
Archetype Main Ability Scores:
The treetop monk mainly focuses on STR/DEX for martial combat and DEX and WIS for their class features.
Archetype Feature Replacements:
1st – Class Skills, Bodybuilding. 2nd – Ki Pool. 3rd – Boost. 5th – Zen. 6th – Blitz Technique. 13th – Reinforced Fortitude. 19th – Inner Strength.
Class Skills
A treetop monk adds Knowledge (nature) to her list of class skills and removes Knowledge (religion) from her list of class skills.
AC Bonus (Ex)
A treetop monk is highly trained at dodging blows, and she has a sixth sense that lets her avoid even unanticipated attacks.
When unarmored and unencumbered, the treetop monk adds her Wisdom bonus (if any) (this bonus is halved if she has a level in another non-prestige class and this is not her favored class) to her AC and her CMD. If the treetop monk gains an attribute bonus to her AC or CMD from some other source, it does not stack.
In addition, a treetop monk gains a +1 bonus to AC and CMD at 4th level. This bonus increases by 1 for every four monk levels thereafter, up to a maximum of +5 at 20th level. These bonuses to AC apply even against touch attacks or when the treetop monk is flat-footed.
She loses these bonuses when she is immobilized or helpless, when she wears any armor, when she carries a shield, or when she carries a medium or heavy load.
This ability replaces bodybuilding.
Ki Pool (Su)
A treetop monk gains additional ki pool points from her Wisdom modifier instead of her Constitution modifier. Additionally, abilities that use her ki pool key off of her Wisdom instead of her Constitution.
This ability modifies ki pool.
Fast Movement (Ex)
At 3rd level, a treetop monk gains a +10 foot enhancement bonus to her land speed. This bonus increases by an additional 10 feet at every third level past 3rd. A treetop monk in armor or carrying a medium or heavy load loses this extra speed.
This ability replaces boost and zen.
Wood Affinity (Su)
At 6th level, a treetop monk may expend 1 point from her ki pool as a free action to treat a wooden object as if it were not broken for 1 minute (this includes a weapon with a wooden haft such as an axe or spear).
At 8th level, as a free action, a treetop monk can expend 1 point from her ki pool to use the Lunge feat with any wooden or wood-hafted melee weapon.
This ability replaces a blitz technique gained at 6th level.
Freedom of Movement (Su)
At 13th level, a treetop monk may expend 1 point from her ki pool as a swift action to gain the effects of freedom of movement for a number of rounds equal to her monk level.
This ability replaces a reinforced fortitude.
Inner Fire (Ex)
At 19th level, the treetop monk attains the ability to draw out her latent power, bolstering her defenses. As a standard action, the treetop monk gains a source of DR/-, with this amount being equal to the monk’s Wisdom bonus. This effect stacks with any existing sources of DR/-, and lasts for 1 minute.
The treetop monk can use this ability 3 times per day.
This ability replaces inner strength.
