Much like their dragon counterparts, elemental dragoons opt to fight with the power of the elements, infusing elemental fury into the devastating crash of their dive attacks.

The elemental dragoon is an archetype of the dragoon class.

Archetype Main Ability Scores:
The elemental dragoon mainly focuses on STR/DEX for martial combat and STR and CON for their class features.

Archetype Feature Replacements:
1st – Limit Breaks2nd – Dragoon Talent. 5th – Dragon’s Breath6th – Dragoon Talent. 10th – Dragoon Talent. 17th – Stardiver.

Elemental Attunement

At 1st level, an elemental dragoon attunes himself an element, be it earth, fire, ice, lightning, water, or wind. Once the elemental dragoon makes this choice, he cannot change it later.

Limit Break (Su)

At 1st level, the elemental dragoon receives the Limit Break (Elemental Scales):

Elemental Scales (Su): This Limit Break causes the elemental dragoon to grow colored dragon scales (indicating which element he is attuned to) from his body, shielding him from harm. For the duration of 1 round + 1 round per four dragoon levels after 1st, the dragoon gains immunity to damage from his attuned element. If his Dragon Scales ability is active, his scales become augmented even further during this time period, allowing him to absorb his attuned element’s damage up to an amount equal to the elemental resistance he gains. Additionally, he gains an amount of temporary hit points equal to twice his dragoon level. This limit break requires only a swift action.

This ability replaces the Limit Break (Bahamut Scales).

Heroic Landing (Su)

At 2nd level, whenever an elemental dragoon deals bonus damage from his Deadly Lancer ability, he may choose to deal that damage as his attuned element’s damage instead. Additionally, he deals that much damage of that element to each creature (excluding himself) within 5 feet of the target of this attack, with a Reflex save (DC 10 + half of the dragoon’s level + his Strength modifier) halving the damage. Using this ability is declared before the elemental dragoon rolls to attack with his Deadly Lancer ability.

This ability replaces a dragoon talent gained at 2nd level.

Dragon’s Breath (Su)

At 5th level, the elemental dragoon must choose his attuned element as the element of his Dragon’s Breath ability. When using his Dragon’s Breath with his attuned element, he gains a +1 to his DC, increasing to +2 at 15th level.

This ability modifies dragon’s breath gained at 5th level.

Dragon Scales (Su)

At 6th level, after using his Heroic Landing, the elemental dragoon grows colored dragon scales that give him elemental resistance to his attuned element. This amount of elemental resistance is equal to the elemental dragoon’s level. Additionally, he gains the following benefits depending on which element is attuned to:

  • Green Dragon Scales (Earth): The elemental dragoon gains damage reduction 1/- per two dragoon levels. This stacks with the bonus from adamantine armor.
  • Red Dragon Scales (Fire): The elemental dragoon’s movement increases by 10 feet + an additional 10 feet for every six dragoon levels attained.
  • White Dragon Scales (Ice): The elemental dragoon gains spell resistance equal to 10 + his dragoon level.
  • Yellow Dragon Scales (Lightning): The elemental dragoon gains the Evasion and Uncanny Dodge abilities, and a +1 dodge bonus for every six dragoon levels attained.
  • Blue Dragon Scales (Water): The elemental dragoon gains a competence bonus on all saving throws equal to 1 + 1 per six dragoon levels.
  • Gray Dragon Scales (Wind): All ranged weapon attacks have a 25% miss chance when made against the elemental dragoon.

These benefits last until the end of the elemental dragoon’s next turn.

This ability replaces a dragoon talent gained at 6th level.

Heroic Finish (Su)

At 10th level, the elemental dragoon may augment his Heroic Landing even further, bestowing additional effects depending on which element he is attuned to:

  • Rippling Earth (Earth): An elemental dragoon causes any creature that fails its Reflex save against his Heroic Landing to be subjected to a bull rush combat maneuver attempt using the target as the point of origin. This attempt does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
  • Heat Wave (Fire): An elemental dragoon causes any creature that takes fire damage from his Heroic Landing to become fatigued unless a Fortitude save (DC 10 + half of the dragoon’s level + his Strength modifier) is made to negate. This ability has no effect on creatures that are already fatigued.
  • Abominable Crash (Ice): An elemental dragoon coats the target of his jump and any creature that fails its Reflex save against his Heroic Landing in ice. At the start of their turn, they must make a Strength check (DC equal to 10 + the number of dice rolled for his Deadly Lancer damage). If they fail, they are denied their Dexterity bonus, cannot cast spells with somatic components, cannot retrieve items, and must spend a full-round action to make a single attack or move 5 feet. This condition ends when the target makes the Strength check, takes any fire damage, or takes an amount of physical damage equal to the dragoon’s level.
  • Nerve Wrack (Lightning): An elemental dragoon causes any creature that takes lightning damage from his Heroic Landing to become shaken for a number of rounds equal to the number of bonus Deadly Lancer dice he rolled, unless a Fortitude save (DC 10 + half of the dragoon’s level + his Strength modifier) is made to negate.  This ability has no effect on creatures that are already shaken.
  • Purge (Water): An elemental dragoon causes any creature that fails its Reflex save against his Heroic Landing to be subjected to a Dispel check as per the spell, using his dragoon level as his caster level.
  • Shockwave (Wind): An elemental dragoon causes any creature that fails its Reflex save against his Heroic Landing to be knocked prone.

The dragoon may use these abilities as a free action when he declares he is using Heroic Landing a number of times per day equal to 3 + his Strength modifier.

This ability replaces a dragoon talent gained at 10th level.

Stardiver (Su)

At 17th level, the elemental dragoon deals his Stardiver damage as his attuned element instead of fire damage.

This ability modifies stardiver gained at 17th level.
