In place of raising the dead, there are sometimes attempts made to replicate the living in the form of life-like dolls, be they souls in mourning or simply those fascinated by the humanoid body they devote their work in creating life-like constructs, hoping to one day make living dolls.
The dollmaker is an archetype of the necromancer class.
Weapon Proficiencies
Dollmakers gain Animated Dolls as a weapon proficiency.
This ability modifies the necromancer’s weapon proficiencies.
Limit Break (Su)
At 1st level, the dollmaker receives the limit break (Forbidden Grimoire).
Forbidden Grimoire (Su): The dollmaker targets a friendly Construct within 30 feet under his control and suffuse it with truly heinous dark magicks to “Perfect” his creation. The construct gains 1d8 temporary + 1d8 per four necromancer levels after 1st, as well as a +4 circumstance bonus to its primary and secondary scores for 1 round + 1 round per four necromancer levels after 1st. This limit break replaces requires only a swift action.
This ability replaces the Limit Break (Grasp of The Dead).
Erudite Casting
Instead of being merely obsessive, the dollmaker’s abilities come from research and understanding, his necromancer class features now use his Intelligence instead of his Charisma modifier, and his spellcasting is based on Intelligence.
- Bonus Spells: The dollmaker gains Mending and Alter Object as cantrips, and these spells at their respective levels: Crafter’s Knowledge – 3rd, Make Whole – 5th, Wind Back the Key – 7th, Make Whole, Greater – 9th, Past’s Facade – 11th, Animate Objects – 13th.
- Limited Necromancy: The dollmaker is not a full necromancer. And as thus his ability to manipulate undead is less substantial to a true necromancer, The dollmaker can only maintain undead up to twice his necromancer level (his animated dolls are exempt from this).
This ability alters the necromancer’s spellcasting, cantrips, and class features.
Doll-Creation (Su)
At 1st level, the dollmaker gains Craft Poppet as a bonus feat and may modify Animated Dolls with augmentations. In addition, the dollmaker gains a +1 competence bonus to Craft (Carpentry) and Craft (Sculpting) checks, plus an additional +1 bonus per two necromancer levels after 1st.
At 6th level, the dollmaker gains Craft Construct as a bonus feat.
This ability replaces spell proficiency and secrets of the dead.
Marionette Controller (Su)
At 1st level, the dollmaker summons the souls of the dead to inhabit animated dolls. These animated dolls function as the bone commander class feature, except for the fact they count as Construct and Undead, and gain the Construct traits in addition to their Undead traits.
The dollmaker begins play with a masterwork animated doll of any kind. These animated dolls use the bone commander advancement table, gaining skills, natural armor bonus, saves, feats, class features, and stat points based on their primary and secondary ability scores. These animated dolls cannot use any weapons or wear any magical items but can be enchanted like a normal animated doll. They also cannot push or pull stuff, or interact with anything (such as applying a healing potion to a person). When attacking, they use their Dexterity modifier plus their BAB to attack with, and their Charisma modifier for damage, but otherwise acts as the animated doll’s attack. Since spirits inhabit these animated dolls, they are always activated, only when the dollmaker is asleep or otherwise unconscious, do they become inanimate.
At 5th level and every four necromancer levels thereafter, the dollmaker can put another undead spirit into another animated doll. However, the dollmaker must have a masterwork or enhanced animated doll to put a spirit into. In addition, the dollmaker ignores the limitation of having only 1 animated doll out at a time.
