SPECIAL ABILITIES
Alternate Form (Su)
At will as a standard action, a jura aevis may take on a humanoid disguise, becoming an ancient human man. This is a polymorph ability, except that the jura aevis’s stat block becomes that of an alte roite until it chooses to transform back as a swift action or is reduced to 0 or fewer hit points. Damage taken by the alte roite form carries over to the jura aevis, but negative status effects are removed.
Blind (Ex)
A jura aevis’s tail slap can cause temporary blindness. If it hits, the target must make a Fortitude save (DC 29) or be blind for 1d4+1 rounds.
Breath Wing (Su)
A jura aevis can use its wings to cause a breath-like attack to slice the air in front of it in a 30-ft. cone. Creatures within the area of effect take 8d6 points of wind damage, Reflex save (DC 26) for half damage. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 4th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 23).
Cold Wave (Su)
As a standard action, a jura aevis may create an area of extreme cold extending outward within a 45 ft.-cone burst. It drains heat, dealing 12d4 points of ice damage, then 1d2 points of Dexterity damage for 10 rounds unless they make a Reflex save (DC 26) for half damage and no stat damage. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 4th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 23).
Confusion (Su)
A jura aevis’s bite can cause temporary confusion. If it hits, the target must make a Will save (DC 26) or be confused for 1d4+1 rounds.
Gates of Hades (Su)
A jura aevis can launch an explosive fireball within 100 ft. which explodes in a 20-ft.-radius. Creatures within the area of effect take 8d6 points of fire damage and suffer the Burning status effect for 1d6+2 rounds. A successful Reflex save (DC 26) reduces the damage by half and negates the status effect. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 4th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 23).
Maelstrom (Su)
Once every 1d3+1 rounds, a jura aevis can unleash a black, draining wind upon its enemies. All enemies in a 20-ft.-radius burst, with a range of 30 feet, must make a Fortitude save (DC 26) or be reduced to a number of hit points equal to their HD. Those who are already at such a level of hit points or lower are reduced to 1 hit point instead. A successful saving throw reduces the enemy’s current hit points by one quarter instead. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 9th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 33).
Poison (Ex)
A jura aevis’s wings are covered in poisonous dust. If they hit, the target must make a Fortitude save (DC 29) or be poisoned (1d6+9 damage) for 1 minute.
Umbral Storm (Su)
A jura aevis can unleash a blinding lightning burst against a group of targets within 50 feet in a 20-ft.-radius burst. Creatures within the area of effect take 8d6 points of lightning damage and are inflicted with the Blind status for 1d4+1 rounds. A successful Reflex (DC 26) halves the damage and negates the status effect. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 4th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 23).
