SPECIAL ABILITIES

Blaster (Su)

A grand aevis can send out a pulse of electricity at a single target within 30 ft. The grand aevis must make a ranged touch attack (+30), if it hits, the target takes 6d6 points of lightning damage and must make a Fortitude save (DC 31) or be inflicted with Immobilize status for 1d4 rounds. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 3rd level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 21).

Blind (Ex)

A grand aevis’s tail slap can cause temporary blindness. If it hits, the target must make a Fortitude save (DC 36) or be blind for 1d4+1 rounds.

Breath Wing (Su)

A grand aevis can use its wings to cause a breath-like attack to slice the air in front of it in a 30-ft. cone. Creatures within the area of effect take 16d6 points of wind damage, Reflex save (DC 31) for half damage. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 4th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 23).

Confusion (Su)

A grand aevis’s bite can cause temporary confusion. If it hits, the target must make a Will save (DC 31) or be confused for 1d4+1 rounds.

Crypt Dust (Su)

Once every 1d3 rounds as a swift action, a grand aevis can shake off some zombifying powder from its wings at a target within 20 feet by making a ranged touch attack (+30). If it hits, that target must make a Fortitude save (DC 31) or suffer the Zombie status effect for 31 rounds. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 5th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 25).

Demon Eye (Su)

The dread gaze from a grand aevis’s eyes works as a gaze attack, inflicting the Statue status permanently, with a range of 15 feet, Fortitude DC 31 negates. A creature which successfully saves against a grand aevis’s Demon Eye is immune to this effect from the same grand aevis for 24 hours.

Maelstrom (Su)

Once every 1d3+1 rounds, a grand aevis can unleash a black, draining wind upon its enemies. All enemies in a 20-ft.-radius burst, with a range of 30 feet, must make a Fortitude save (DC 31) or be reduced to a number of hit points equal to their HD. Those who are already at such a level of hit points or lower are reduced to 1 hit point instead. A successful saving throw reduces the enemy’s current hit points by one quarter instead. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 9th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 33).

Paraclete (Su)

2/day a grand aevis can raise a dead creature to serve it. This ability functions as Raise Undead. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 6th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 27).

Poison (Ex)

A grand aevis’s wings are covered in poisonous dust. If they hit, the target must make a Fortitude save (DC 36) or be poisoned (1d6+11 damage) for 1 minute.

Poison Breath (Su)

Once every 1d4 rounds, a grand aevis can exhale a mighty poison breath in a 60-foot cone, inflicting 14d6 non-elemental damage plus the Poisoned status (2d6+11 damage) for 1d6+1 rounds on all within the cone. A Reflex save (DC 36) halves the damage and negates the status. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Summon Dark Elementals (Sp)

This ability works as per Summon Monster IX, except that it always summons two Dark Elementals and its duration is permanent. A grand aevis may only have two Dark Elementals summoned at once, and may not use this ability again unless the Dark Elementals are slain or dismissed.

Zombie Breath (Su)

Once every 1d4 rounds, a grand aevis can exhale a mighty shadow breath in a 60-foot cone, inflicting 16d6 shadow damage plus the Zombie status for 1d6+1 rounds on all within the cone. A Reflex save (DC 36) halves the damage and negates the status. The save DC is Constitution-based.
