SPECIAL ABILITIES

Blind (Ex)

An archaeoaevis’s tail slap can cause temporary blindness. If it hits, the target must make a Fortitude save (DC 23) or be blind for 1d4 rounds.

Breath Wing (Su)

Once every 1d4+1 rounds, an archaeoaevis can use its wings to cause a breath-like attack to slice the air in front of it in a 30-ft. cone. Creatures within the area of effect take 8d6 points of wind damage, Reflex save (DC 20) for half damage. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 4th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 23).

Cold Wave (Su)

Once every 1d4+1 rounds as a standard action, an archaeoaevis may create an area of extreme cold extending outward within a 45 ft.-cone burst. It drains heat, dealing 10d4 points of ice damage, then 1d2 points of Dexterity damage for 5 rounds unless they make a Reflex save (DC 20) for half damage and no stat damage. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 4th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 23).

Confusion (Su)

An archaeoaevis’s bite can cause temporary confusion. If it hits, the target must make a Will save (DC 20) or be confused for 1d4 rounds.

Gates of Hades (Su)

Once every 1d4+1 rounds, an archaeoaevis can launch an explosive fireball within 100 ft. which explodes in a 20-ft.-radius. Creatures within the area of effect take 8d6 points of fire damage and suffer the Burning status effect for 1d6+2 rounds. A successful Reflex save (DC 20) reduces the damage by half and negates the status effect. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 4th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 23).

Maelstrom (Su)

Once per day, an archaeoaevis can unleash a black, draining wind upon its enemies. All enemies in a 20-ft.-radius burst, with a range of 30 feet, must make a Fortitude save (DC 20) or be reduced to a number of hit points equal to their HD. Those who are already at such a level of hit points or lower are reduced to 1 hit point instead. A successful saving throw reduces the enemy’s current hit points by one quarter instead. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 9th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 33).

Poison (Ex)

An archaeoaevis’s wings are covered in poisonous dust. If they hit, the target must make a Fortitude save (DC 23) or be poisoned (1d6+8 damage) for 1 minute.

Sap (Su)

As a standard action, an archaeoaevis can deliver a powerful bite that begins rapidly draining its target’s health. If it hits, the target must make a Fortitude save (DC 20) or be sapped (2d4+5 damage) for 1 minute.

Umbral Storm (Su)

Once every 1d4+1 rounds, an archaeoaevis can unleash a blinding lightning burst against a group of targets within 50 feet in a 20-ft.-radius burst. Creatures within the area of effect take 8d6 points of lightning damage and are inflicted with the Blind status for 1d4+1 rounds. A successful Reflex save (DC 20) halves the damage and negates the status effect. Blue mages may learn this ability as a 4th level spell (Knowledge: Arcana DC 23).
